This Dog Has Cute, Nerdy Braces. Let's Hope Nobody Shoves Him In A Locker
The poor little guy's teeth were coming in misaligned, so his vet provided the cutest fix to some crooked canines you've ever seen.
Wesley is a very cute (and excited) puppy.
Wesley lives in Michigan with a very loving family. Recently, Wesley's big boy teeth grew in, but there was a small problem - they were terribly misaligned. So Wesley's owners took him to Harborfront Hospital for Animals (where Wesley's Grand dog-dad works as a veterinarian) to see if there was anything they could do about it.
To fix the problem with Wesley's teeth, the veterinarians offered a rather obvious solution: give him braces.
Yes, dog orthodontics exists, though getting braces is not possible for all dog breeds, and sometimes oral surgery is a better option. Doggie braces were, however, a possibility in Wesley's case. As long as proper evaluations, procedures and follow-ups are performed on dogs with braces, they're completely safe.
Just look at Wesley now. Do you think he likes his braces?
I'd say so - check out that metallic smile! He really pulls them off well, and he's adjusting perfectly to his new dental appliances.
Doggy orthodontics goes beyond just braces.
PetAlign exists, and they're much like Invisalign - basically retainers for dogs. It actually blows my mind that dogs can have retainers. Of course, in most dogs' cases, retainers and braces are more health decisions than aesthetic ones.
Keeping your dog's teeth healthy and hygienic is actually a very important process. This video provides good instructions on how to properly care for your dog's teeth.
This is a must-watch for proper brush technique and canine dental care. Most importantly, perhaps: don't use human toothpaste on your dogs! For more information on how to care for your canine's canines, check out the American Veterinary Medical Association website.
