People Have Been Walking Around NYC With MacBook Selfie Sticks
In case you thought the selfie stick couldn't get any worse.
You've probably seen people taking photos with a selfie stick before.
You've probably also noticed how totally ridiculous it looks. And what's even worse? Taking photos with an iPad in public. It's just so weird.
And what's even worse than taking photos with a selfie stick or an iPad?
That's right, using a selfie stick in conjunction with a MacBook. Why?
For all of you who think this is totally ridiculous, I agree.
But for those of you who are salivating over the idea of a selfie stick for MacBook, I've some bad news for you - it's not a real thing you can buy.
The MacBook selfie stick is actually an art project.
The project is fooling people all around NYC, who look onward, confused, as the artists pretend to take pictures with their MacBook selfie sticks.
The project is actually a perfect commentary on the conflux of vanity and technology in modern culture.
Instagram is full of Kardashian-esque selfies, and many of us are practically the centers of our own universes on social media. By combining an outrageously large MacBook with a selfie stick, the project is meant to highlight the ridiculousness of accepted social media vanity.
But one has to assume that someone will actually make a functioning one of these, and it will sell incredibly well.
A lot of people don't get parody or social commentary quite as well as they probably should, so we'll probably see these everywhere - without a hint of irony - in the next five years.
