The Army is Giving Away Your Dream Pet For Free, And The Reason Why Is Awesome
Free ponies, you say?
Let's be real, everyone wants a pony
Whether you've watched the Li'l Sebastian episodes of "Parks and Recreation" or "Braveheart" - literally every awesome TV show or movie has a super cool horse and I WANT ONE. It would totally fulfill all of my wildest dreams about being the fancy princess I was BORN TO BE. Having a horse would be fun, majestic and it's totally greener than having a car.
The Army has horses and they are being adopted FOR FREE to good homes!
FOR FREE. AS IN YOU COULD GET A FREE HORSE. DREAMS DO COME TRUE.
The horses can be adopted by people, or by organizations such as local horse stables, zoos, sanctuaries, horse therapy programs, riding programs - really anyone who needs or wants a horse and is able to provide a comfortable and loving life.
These horses are a part of the Army's Old Guard Caisson Platoon, which has literally been around since the beginning of America.
The regiment is called the "Old Guard" because they were founded in 1784, right after the Revolutionary War in order to honor those who had died in the fight for independence.
These horses are specially trained to lead military funerals in addition to pageants, memorials, parades, and presidential funerals
And if you didn't totally love them already, they are therapeutically trained to have a calming presence for mourners at and for the soldiers who ride them. THEY WILL WARM OUR HEARTS AND CALM OUR MINDS.
Here are some of the magnificent, cute, TOTALLY ADOPTABLE, TOTALLY FREE horses that you could help find a good home
Which magical creature will fulfill all of your fairy tale/Lord of the Rings/cowboy/girl dreams?
Meet Kennedy:
Kennedy is a sassy, independent spirit and available for adoption after 15 years of service as a riderless horse in the Caisson Platoon. He looks a lot like Mulan's horse and would totally help you save China and find true love.
Meet Quincy:
This is Quincy: he's really sweet and led funerals at Arlington almost eight times a day for eleven years. That's incredible dedication. He's independent and loyal, like the horse from "Brave". If you had a chance to get a free horse, would ya?
Meet Freedom:
Freedom was very recently adopted to a wonderfully loving home. Freedom is a cream horse, which means he pulled the caissons and caskets at Arlington. He's an extremely lovable 12 year old who looks like he walked straight out of "The Princess Bride".
Those are the only horses available, for now
The army apparently has A TON of horses. The Old Guard releases adoption availability on a rolling basis, but they are always looking for good homes for these horses who have dedicated their lives to serving our country's soldiers.
There's also this list of available horses that is regularly updated on Tuesdays that shows you if there are newly adoptable horses or if the previous horses found awesome homes.
They are free and they could be yours! Which free horse would you adopt?
