Here's What A Ridiculous Spa In Oregon Has To Offer Its Customers
Hop in the Spa has one of the most intriguing philosophies of relaxation you could imagine.
Beer, the ultimate relaxation. But what if there was a way to have it relax you more? What if you not only drank it, but submerged your entire body in a vat of it?
You might get a bit sticky, but it would be relaxing nonetheless.
Well, good news: Hop in the Spa located in Sisters, Oregon is a spa dedicated to helping people relax in "beer," with treatments centered around the beverage's ingredients.
Truthfully, you're not actually soaking in beer beer. Although Hop in the Spa's website is designed to make it seem like that's the case, you're actually soaking in a blend of minerals, hops and "proprietary ingredients." There seems to be no alcohol involved in the treatments whatsoever, so my apologies if you were looking forward to a weekend soaking in Budweiser.
"Beer spas" - which claim hops, barley and various ingredients in beer have healing properties - have been around for a while in Europe, though they're just starting to pop up in the US.
According to Hop in the Spa's website, their services "bring [to the customer] the benefits of soaking in beer inspired ingredients, minerals and proprietary additives. Benefits that include improving skin tone, reducing stress and detoxification." There aren't any studies to back up these claims, but people seem to be going with it anyway. Sitting in a tub full of plants can't hurt, I suppose. At worst, it's an eccentric novelty experience you can tell your friends about.
Hop in the Spa offers "Microbrew Soaks."
This is mostly what it sounds like - you'll be sitting in a tub full of "microbrew." Again, it's more than likely you won't actually be submerged in real, drinkable beer - just a bath mixture that uses the same ingredients as beer. This isn't completely clarified on the website, but just to be safe, you can still order a package where you get to drink some real microbrew.
You can also get a rubdown with a hops/barley mixture.
While the actual health benefits of beer's ingredients are a bit questionable (can they really lead to "clearer skin"?), it would probably feel amazing to get massaged with some nice hops oil, or to be encased in a warm pile of sheets infused with hops aroma while someone rubs your face.
