People Are Pissed Off Over Starbucks' New Rewards Program
Small spenders are going to earn way fewer points with this new program. 😓
Starbucks just announced that starting in April, their rewards program will be based on number of dollars spent rather than number of visits.
Basically, if you spend around $5 or less per visit, you won't be getting as many freebies.
The new program rewards higher spenders and larger orders. Rude.
Right now, customers earn one "star" per visit and receive a free food or drink item per 12 visits, regardless of how much they spend.
Starbucks executives say changing the program to center around what you buy was "the number-one customer requested update" as most customers spend about $5 per visit.
Starbucks Global Chief Strategy Officer Matthew Ryan believes "there are a small minority of people who would either be advantaged or disadvantaged" by the change.
The "disadvantaged" people, however, are not very happy...
People don't even want to call it a rewards program anymore. Because is it, if you're essentially just being ripped off?
Some want to boycott Starbucks altogether.
Some, however, are seeing a silver lining.
But mostly, people are just really pissed off.
Starbucks has been responding to customer complaints on Facebook.
