This Is What A Family Looks Like: Unusual Photo Series Shows True Love
Jana Romanova is a Russian photographer. Her photography projects document the human experience in unexpected - but heartwarming - ways.
Jana Romanova, a photographer from Russia, undertook a project where she photographed expecting couples sleeping in their beds early in the morning.
The series photographs couples from both St. Petersburg and Moscow.
The project is called "waiting."
According to Romanova's website, "the project investigates not only their attitude to each other during the period of expecting a baby, but also the way young families live in big cities of modern Russia."
The photos seem to reveal a lot about a pregnant couple's relationship and how they nurture each other during pregnancy.
There's also a lot more revealed by the photos.
Each photograph gives a glimpse into a couple's lifestyle. What can we expect the soon-to-be-born baby's lifestyle to be like? This photo clearly reveals a nurturing and creatively encouraging home, judging by the artwork on the walls and the plant in the windowsill. It also appears that the little girl is very excite to get a little brother or sister.
In all, "waiting" consists of 40 images.
The number is meant to represent the 40 weeks of pregnancy.
There are photos like this, which also seem to be quite telling of both lifestyle and relationship.
Sleeping on a pullout couch, the man is turned away from his partner. What can we expect the baby's life to be like?
The photography's attention to "being natural" is a key part of the project.
According to Romanova, it's crucial that the couple is photographed early in the morning, at a "time when people don’t really care about their appearance." This gives a candid nature to the photographs that would otherwise be missing.
Mostly, the photographs show a lot of love.
Hopefully, these babies will come into loving, warm homes.
