This Artist's Work Is Famous For More Than Just Its Attention To Detail
Omid Asadi is a ridiculously talented artist who creates beautiful art through an unusual medium.
Omid Asadi's artwork will blow you away.
Using leaves that he collects in nature, Asadi makes remarkably detailed work that's a combination of sculpture, sketch and engraving that he simply calls "leaf cutting." This piece is titled "Dandelion."
After drying and pressing a leaf, Asadi sketches an intricate design onto it.
When he's ready, he then cuts with a very sharp knife. This piece is called "Children's World" and was created for Manchester-based charity Retrak.
The process requires a lot of care–any accidental movement could rip or tear the leaf's brittle body.
As a result, each leaf takes about a week to two months to finish cutting. This one's called "Freedom."
The slow pace of the artwork is a good thing, though, because it allows Asadi to create amazingly cut leaves like "Autumn."
The miniature leaves–as well as the intricate cuts on the subject's back–are nothing short of brilliant work on such a microscopic scale.
Asadi also takes influence form older works, such as this homage to "The Thinker," called "Thinking Man."
The resemblance is pretty apparent, wouldn't you say?
His portrait work is striking in its minimalism, as is the contrast of white space with leaf and the way he can use the leaf as a frame.
"Charles Dickens" shows the author in a classical pose.
Pieces like "Owl" are all about the strategic and careful placement of the cuts.
"Leave's Mind" shows a skillful demonstration of concept, skillful use of white space and pleasing shape placement.
Asadi is originally from Iran, but originally lives in Sale. He's exhibited in London, Manchester and Milan. Hopefully he continues to exhibit around the world.
