An Easy Puzzle To Kids, A Challenge To Adults. Which Way Is The Bus Going?
All it takes is a little common sense and some simple, childlike thinking.
On a recent episode of National Geographic's "Brain Games", people asked kids a simple question in relation to the above picture: if the bus started moving, which way would it be going?
So was I. And the fact that 80% of children under 10 were able to answer correctly doesn't make me feel any less stupid. Actually, it makes me feel more stupid. And yes, there is a correct answer (though it depends on where you live in the world, but we'll get to that shortly. The solution is below, but take a minute to think for yourself before looking.
Here's the solution. The bus is traveling to the left.
We can't see the door in the photo, so we have to assume the door is on the other side of the bus. As you know, the driver sits on the side of the bus that's opposite to the door. That means the driver has to be sitting on the side of the bus that we see in the picture. Assuming you live in the US, the only logic to apply, therefore, would be that the driver is sitting in the position shown above. The bus is thus traveling to the left. Of course, if you live in the UK (or another country where the custom is to drive on the left side of the road), this would be the opposite, and the bus would be traveling to the right.
