He wanted to find a way out of it, but now it's all over TV.
After making an ill-advised hockey related bet with his two sons, one Ottawa father, Warren Jansen, is having to make good on his word.
The bet was that if Ottawa Senators’ winger Bobby Ryan scored a goal against the New York Rangers, he would get them a puppy.
With front row seats, the boys could easily be seen holding up their sign on TV, so there was no lack of accountability.
And sure enough, with a few minutes left in the 2nd period, Ryan scored the game's first goal, as the Senators went on to win 3-0.
Ryan would later go on to admit that he felt a bit of pressure.
“I wanted to get the poor kid a dog,” he told reporters, according to the Ottawa Citizen.
Jansen later told CBC News that the bet was "half-hearted" and made under the assumption/hope Ryan wouldn't score. Of course, he was proven wrong pretty quickly.
“I was a little bit shocked like, how am I going to get out of this?” he said. “And then it was all over TV and I was like, there’s no way out.”
Allegedly, the Jensens have fittingly decided to name the puppy "Bobby" in honor of the altruistic hockey player.
