Not even a month into the new year and we already have our first nominee for 2016 Father of the Year.

After 18 months of nights and weekends spent welding, cutting, painting, and building, imgur user radamshome finally completed his daughter's fairytale room.

It started off as a plain, drab white room...

And was transformed into this - a multicolored fairytale forestland fit for an aspiring princess.

By the time the project was complete, the Father of the Year candidate had spent roughly 350 hours working on it and $4,250 on all supplies.

As an artist in the video game industry, he was able to easily draw up a design for the room, using Disney set design for inspiration, and create a miniature model to reference.

But as far as the manual labor went, well, he didn't anticipate it to be quite as grueling as it was.

"I was kind of un-prepared for the physical realities of this project," he writes on Imgur.

But as time went on, he became more comfortable with the physical demands of the build. He even took a private welding class to make sure he made built the rebar supports soundly.

The skeleton alone took him 120 hours - over a third of the time it took him to complete the project.

As the tree started to take shape, his daughter grew more and more excited.

And finally, after nearly 10 months, the DIY dad had finally completed it. Then came the easy parts...

Painting and decorating, which he had a lot more experience in, particularly painting.

Now, his daughter has the fairytale room most girls only dream of, and she couldn't be more in love with it.

"Even though it was difficult, I learned a huge amount along the way. It turned out pretty well, and she's so happy in her new room!"

But he wasn't too shabby with the decorating either. He even intertwined Christmas lights on a dimmer into the branches to give the room a "night sky" feel.
Really, his attention to detail in general was impeccable.

Radamshome said he purchased most of his decorative supplies at Michael's art store.
