Monkey Protecting A Lost Puppy Is The Sweetest Story In The World

Earlier this month, citizens of Erode, India spotted something incredible.

A female rhesus macaque monkey "adopted" a small stray puppy and began looking after him as if he were her own.

As onlookers watched in amazement, they observed the monkey do all the things a mother would do for her own offspring. She preened him...

She fed him, always letting him eat/drink first.

She even protected him from other stray dogs.

And she was not messing around.

Not long after, the two became inseparable. The new mother even carried her adopted son like one of her own.

Hell, she even took him up in the trees with her. Who knows, maybe she's convinced he is a monkey.

Or, maybe she's just got the maternal instincts of a demigod.

Whatever her level of understanding is, her instincts to protect and care for the puppy are remarkable nonetheless.

“People who have seen them spoke of their strong mutual affection and described their bond as the most caring thing in the world — to take care of a puppy in danger and protect him like a parent,” reports Zee News.

Local citizens were so amazed with the bond the two developed, they began setting out food for the unusual little family.

The two are a testimony to the incredible forces of primitive maternal instincts, and a reminder of just how relationally capable animals, and particularly primates are.

As one local put it, “Their undying affection gives us a valuable lesson about relationships.”

A valuable lesson indeed - never underestimate animals...or moms.
