10 Girl Cliques In Films That Would've Been Terrifying To Go To School With
There's nothing like teen angst and girl drama! While your high school experience might have been pretty normal (boring, even) you would turn to these classic girl squad movies to spice things up a bit. And even if you were deeply afraid of someone like Regina George, well, you still would have given up anything to be in their clique.
"We are the weirdos, mister."
When a troubled teenager moves to L.A., she makes friends with a group of badass girls rumored to be witches. So when Sarah befriends Nancy, Bonnie and Rochelle, she discovers that their powers aren't necessarily... good. It's the right amount of dark fantasy and high school girl angst. Just imagine what you'd do (and who you'd reprimand) if you had super powers in high school! The possibilities are endless.
"Ugh, as if!"
Cher was pretty much your spirit animal, and you longed to be friends with someone so stylish, popular and... ok, maybe a bit clueless, too. Plus, she had a huge house and her closet was seriously some advanced technology for the '90s. Dee was the perfect sidekick, and you wanted to befriend their group just so you could hate on high school boys together.
"Yeah, no. Don't put me down for cardio."
The greatest thing about the Barden Bellas is that they're all so different! You've got the super dedicated leader of the group, Chloe, ~edgy~ Becca, and the hysterical Fat Amy who hates cardio. Each one brings something unique to the group, so surely there's room for you too!
4. The Plastics - "Mean Girls" (2004)
"On Wednesdays we wear pink."
"Mean Girls" defined a generation - the Burn Book, Glen Coco, and "you can't sit with us" are just a few iconic things from the film, which explores (and parodies) the harshness of teenage girl world. Cady is brand new to public school and starts hanging out with "the Plastics" while experiencing the ups and downs of being friends with the most popular girls in school. Ultimately, it teaches a great lesson - don't ever trust anyone who hands you a Kaltine bar.
"I don't look at it as dropping out! I look at is as a very strategic career move."
The Pink Ladies were the OG girl squad. Remember watching this movie as a kid and thinking you were really cool? Even if you did fear Rizzo just a bit, you so desperately wanted to throw on a pink jacket, black satin pants, and red lipstick just to fit in with the ultimate girl squad. There's nothing quite like dancing and singing about dropping out of beauty school!
"The six chicks are not your friends, okay?"
Tom-Tom (and her side half pony) were downright terrifying. She was so mean, and so was young Ashley Benson. You related so hard to Jenna desperately wanting to fit in with them though. It may have taken a whole time-traveling adventure for Jenna to realize Tom-Tom is a terrible person, but when she finally stands up to her at the end of the film, it actually made your teenage self feel accomplished. Because, ultimately, nice girls finish first.
"I'm bitchin', great hair, / The boys all love to stare, / I'm wanted, I'm hot, / I'm everything you're not"
"Bring It On" made you want to give cheerleading a try, because Kirsten Dunst was so cool and popular. There was so much petty drama (obvi, it's a cheerleading squad) but you found yourself greatly absorbed in their world.
"Cha-ching! I found bras!"
Remember when you would have sleepovers with your friends and watch "Sleepover?" Not only did you have a major crush on Russell (major heart-eye emoji for young Evan Peters), but you lived in fear of Stacie. So when she becomes a #Loser at the end of the film in high school, it gave you a great sense of joy.
"What's your damage?"
One of the best dark comedies to exist, "Heathers" is sucha classic and Winona Ryder's best film to date (don't argue.) The Heathers are wildly popular yet also hated. Veronica has just about had enough of the Heathers, so she decides to return to her own life, and along the way meets the dangerous outsider J.D, where things take a very dark turn. But at the end of the day, Veronica actually chooses to skip prom. Imagine that.
"You want to STEAL Scarlett Johannson?!"
All-girls school + eccentric headmistress + teenage rebellion = "St. Trinians." An all-girls school only calls for trouble and cliques, and the Posh Totties were the "It" clique. Between their shiny blonde hair and illegal vodka making business, the Posh Totties had it all. There's even a WikiHow page dedicated to how you can be a Posh Totty! Just make sure your hair is shiny and that your skin is always clear and glowing with no blemishes. Simple!
