9 Rock Songs Of 2003 We Are All Ashamed To Admit Were Awesome
The music industry is in constant fluctuation as to what is or isn't cool. Some older songs become popular again, while others make you think, "WTF were we thinking as a society when we let this song reach such heights of popularity?" You remember those songs, right? You probably pirated them from LimeWire or the like when you were in middle school, and now they lie dormant in the depths of your unused iTunes library. The year 2003 was full of these.
Well, dare I say it, I'm "calling all you angels" to come down to Earth and save us from the misery of looking back on the embarrassment of having listened to and quite possibly enjoyed this song during the year 2003 as if it wasn't pop garbage.
2. "So Far Away" – Staind
I've got to say, "Now that we're here" in the year 2015, the popularity of this song in the year 2003 seems, "so far away." However, while that may be true, it was unimaginably very popular, and we as a society are the culprits of this crime.
3. "Are You Happy Now?" – Michelle Branch
Well, Mrs. Branch, if you're specifically asking me the question the title of this song is begging for an answer to, "Are You Happy Now?" my answer would be:
"Yes, because it's no longer 2003 and I don't have to hear this song on the radio."
"How the hell'd we wind up like this? Why weren't we able to see the signs that we missed?"
Sure, those are the opening lyrics to this song, but they are also reminiscent of the glaring mistakes we all made as a society by letting Nickelback rise to rock super stardom with a song like this in 2003.
5. "I Hate Everything About You" – Three Days Grace
Thank you, Three Days Grace, for providing me with the perfect sentence to describe how I feel about your music, specifically this 2003 song:
"I hate everything about you [as a band]."
6. "Behind Blue Eyes" – Limp Bizkit
Wait, hold the f*ck on, this wonderful song was covered by the who? "Who the f*ck are you?" What…what is this?!
"And no one knows what it's like, to be hated."
Well, if you hadn't covered this song, that might not be the case.
7. "Faint" – Linkin Park
"But it's like no matter what I do, I can't convince you, to just believe this is real."
Unfortunately, Linkin Park did convince us all that this track was all too real, and for the entirety for the year 2003 we already sang, nay, yelled alongside them. Now, if you listen to this song for real, surely you'll faint in embarrassment.
"I never will forget those nights. I wonder if it was a dream?"
Unfortunately, nope, this song's confusing popularity was no dream, and we all are to blame for that.
9. "Going Under" – Evanescence
"Blurring and stirring the truth and the lies. (So I don't know what's real)."
What is real, is that in 2003, no lie, this song was wildly popular, and none of us did anything to stop that truth. Think about thank, and you may find yourself, "Going under!"
