The Powerball Is At $1.5 Billion. Here's How Much Money Some Idiot Thinks You Deserve

by N/A, 9 years ago | 2 min read

Winning $1.5 billion might make you rich, but it won't make you any less stupid.

funny stupid lottery Non-Premium

At the time of writing, the Powerball jackpot is nearly 1.5 billion dollars. In case you didn't know, that's a ridiculous amount of money, and everyone's freaking out about it.

I wouldn't know what to do with myself if I had that much money.

One person named Philipe Andolini was so excited about the potential winnings (when they were still 1.3 bil) that he created an image mathematically breaking down how the jackpot could solve poverty in the U.S. Except for one tiny detail...

This meme has gone viral, and has been shared over 1.3 million times on social media.

...the math revealing what "Everyone receives" is TOTALLY off. By approximately $4,329,995.67. That's pretty off.

To be fair, though, anyone who takes a meme like that at face value doesn't deserve to win that much money anyways.

Let's review: 1,300,000,000 divided by 300,000,000 does not equal 4,300,000. If the Powerball winnings of $1.3 billion were distributed amongst the U.S. population of 300 million, each person would receive $4.33.

That's enough to buy a few sodas, or maybe a taco. Although I still have some qualms with these number–aside from the fact we already know the Powerball is up to $1.5 billion, the U.S. population is closer to about 323 million. But these new numbers bring some good news–you'd actually get about $4.64! Which is maybe enough for a taco AND a soda. Yippee.

But there's still a bunch of money at stake, and you could still win. Here are some things you could buy if you win the $1.5 billion jackpot:

Yeah, the odds of winning are only about 1 in 292 million, but there's *still* a chance! The items below show only what you could hypothetically buy with $1.5 billion, and do not account for taxes taken from the winnings. So, in case you do win, don't come crying to me saying, "boo hoo! You said I could buy 1,071 Ferraris, but I could actually only afford 706!" You've been warned

1,071 models of the Ferrari LaFerrari.

At $1.4 million each, they're not cheap.

1,692,123 bottles of Dom Perignon Rose.

Because you'll instantly be classy AF if you win.

230,769 nights in the Ritz Carlton Presidential Suite.

That's about 632 years of luxury.

In the mean time, good luck winning the jackpot. If that doesn't work out for you, have a nice life.
