Newly Discovered "Super-Heavy" Metal Elements Being Petitioned To Be Named After Lemmy
Motörhead, as a group, needs no introduction as a Rock Music icons, and their front man Ian Fraser Kilmister, known professionally as "Lemmy" is no different. His influence on rock music spans decades, as Motörhead played together for 40 years, until the unfortunate, recent passing of Lemmy on December 28, 2015. However, fans aren't ready to let Lemmy's legacy pass away with him. John Wright, presumably an avid fan, set up a Change.org petition to cement Lemmy's name in a different heavy metal.
The point is, recently four new "super-heavy" metals were discovered, which according to the Wall Street Journal fills:
"…in key blank spots in chemistry’s official compendium of the basic building blocks of the universe."
Okay, but you're probably still wondering what that has to do with the passing of Lemmy, right? Enter John Wright and his Change.org petition.
He even offers up a proposal for the name, dubbing it Lemmium. The project has nearly 95,000 supporters as of the writing of this article. The goal is to get to 150,000 supporters, and if you think this is a cause you're be up to supporting, you can sign the petition here.
The service is set for January 9, 2016, so hopefully you will have caught wind of this information in time to pay your respects to a rock legend that will be sorely missed by both the industry and fans alike.
One supporter of the petition, D.H. of London, did however bring up an interesting point in terms of getting an element named after the supposed "heavy-metal" influencer:
"Let's not (do this). Lemmy himself said in 2010:
'We were not heavy metal,' he snaps. 'We were a rock'n'roll band. Still are. Everyone always describes us as heavy metal even when I tell them otherwise. Why won't people listen?'
Why won't you listen?"
What do you think? Still support this, or no?
