3D made 2D
Alexa Meade's artwork is far from traditional, though you may not know it at first glance.
While they look like acrylic paintings, there is more than meets the eye.
Namely, she actually paints ON people.
Instead of painting on a canvas, she uses human subjects that she transforms into painted portraits.
The project started as a fascination with shadows and grew into an amazing artistic endeavor.
She began painting on herself as she developed the style and became comfortable with her technique.
Now, she paints the surrounding areas, props, and clothing in advance because it can take days to complete.
Then she paints the models themselves just before the photo shoot.

The final result is amazing as she transforms a 3D setting into a seemingly 2D portrait.
Meade graduated as a political science major and sees some aspects of politics and PR in the art she creates now.
"Working on the side of the politics that dealt with spin and PR, I became really fascinated by how we interpret information and the mismatch between what is said and what is heard. I carried over my interest in spin into my art, prompting me to explore the different ways that visual perception can be manipulated."
While still painting human portraits, Meade is also working on new tech collaborations and projects with virtual reality.
