The Level Of Detail On This Miniature Railroad System Carved Out Of a Pencil Is Crazy

Cindy Chinn, is as she explains herself, a "full-time Artist and when I create artwork, I am reminded how lucky I am to have the freedom to do I as choose." Her most recent work of art is a train that's only 3/16 of an inch tall carved out of lead and in the middle of a pencil that's 5-5/8? long and mounted in a wood shadowbox frame. The end result is far more than just a few pencil shavings, but instead a truly masterful work of art.

Here's the entire creation from the Nebraska-based artist. As you can see, the train is making it's way through the tunnels of the pencil.

And, the conductor car existing the tunnel, hopefully with the brakes on, as the rails end here.

No seriously, like is that thing going to run off the edge? How many passengers are on board?! Where's Keanu Reeves when we need him?

Okay, sorry–my childhood imagination just came out there for a second. I was playing pretend and thinking of this beautiful work of art as a Speed scenario, and it was actually quite fun. Thanks for indulging.

Back to the point, as you can see here, Chinn's creation is very small, and now you may just respect the level of intricacy this took.

It was formerly on sale for $400, but Chinn's website now says it has been sold. However, she does say she's willing to create you your very own piece similar to what you've seen here, so just contact her if that sounds like something you'd be interested in. Especially if you're like me and enjoy playing pretend and bracing yourself for impact until that fateful moment Keanu shows up to save the day.
