What Happened When This Parakeet Nested An Egg From The Market Was Quite A Surprise

Never underestimate the will of an aspiring mother.
When Japanese YouTuber LUNA ANGEL returned from the grocery store, she gave one of the quail eggs she'd bought to her pet parakeet Pi-Chan to play with.
Immediately, Pi-Chan took to the egg like it was her own and began nesting it. After seeing how attached she was to it, Luna let Pi-Chan continue nesting the egg, expecting her to lose interest at some point.
But low and behold, after several days of incubating, the surrogate mother had a baby chick of her own!
And it is absolutely the most adorable little thing.
You may be wondering how in the world something like this is even possible though. Good question.
In Japan, rather than refrigerating eggs like grocers do in the United States and elsewhere, they tend to leave them out among other non-refrigerated produce. Thus, the embryos' capacity for life isn't completely ousted by being frozen.
Nonetheless, this little guy's propulsion into existence, thanks to Pi-Chan, is nothing short of incredible.
Luna named the miracle quail Yuzu, and has continued to raise and care for him since, all while recording his progress on YouTube.
Here's some footage Luna's taken over the past few weeks of adorable little Yuzu gaining his bearings:
