Welcome to the underground town down under.
In the middle of the outback desert, roughly 850 kilometers north of Adelaide, rests one of Australia's most fascinating towns.
Despite it being one of the only towns in the remote vicinity, Coober Pedy is remarkably hard to spot.
And it gives whole new meaning to "the land down under."
But that's because 95% of it is completely underground.
While instinct may have you assume it as primitive, Coober Pedy has all the same luxuries of any other town. From restaurants and diners...
To libraries and bookstores, the 1,600 resident town is equipped with all of life's necessities.
Being underground also has its perks. During the summer, the outback desert can reaches temperatures of up to 130 degrees Fahrenheit. But even in those conditions, Coober Pedy remains a cool 72 degrees - no air conditioning necessary.
The town even has several different churches as well, which are as beautiful as they are sturdy.
Never mind practicality - there's no shortage of beautiful architecture here in this small underground wonderland.
