This Guy's Nativity Scene May Be Hilariously Creative, But It's Also Pretty Offensive

by N/A, 10 years ago | 2 min read

Dressing up as Santa for Halloween is okay, but this? This may be a little too much.

Recently, resident of Deer Park, Ohio, Jason Dixon, was fined by the city unexpectedly. For what, you ask? Making an anti-Christ, zombie nativity scene.

When asked by The Week why he chose to make the borderline sacrilegious display, Dixon responded with clearcut, undeniable honesty, saying, "I wanted a nativity scene and I worked with what I had."

That's right. The middle-aged Dixon decided that Christmas was overrated and Halloween came and went too fast, so he took matters into his own hands...and demonized his entire block.

The undead "nativity" generated such a stink (pun intended) that Sycamore Township - the 12-town municipality that includes his hometown of Deer Park - caught wind of it immediately, and has since threatened to fine Dixon $500 every day the zombie nativity remains on display.

Perhaps even more humorously - or detestably, depending on your opinion - this isn't the first time Dixon's attempted to put his zombie nativity on display.

Just last year, he tried putting up the same display, but Township officials ordered him to take it down due to a lack of proper permits.

This year, Dixon applied for the permits and was denied because the structure took up "more than 35%" of his lawn.

Is it arbitrary? Sure. But in a way, the township and Dixon's opposers have a right to be.

Let's be honest, if you were raising your family in a primarily Christian community - hypothetically speaking - you probably wouldn't be too jazzed your neighbor putting up anti-Christ symbols during the Christmas season.

But Dixon has a right to express himself freely, doesn't he? Sure, but not if it infringes on publicly debasing your neighbor's religion.

Fortunately, Dixon didn't take the whole thing too hard. But he was however, hilariously oblivious to the whole offense.

"I think it's the theme. It just rubs people the wrong way and it puts the spotlight on me. That's why they're coming down so hard on me," he told WTSP.

"If it was a real pretty nativity scene they wouldn't be saying anything."

Yeah...no shit, big guy. No shit.
