You Will Need To Hear This Newly Designed Guitar To Believe The Sound It Produces

by N/A, 10 years ago | 2 min read

HectorTepuy is an artist and an machinist that works for Stereotank, and his latest creation is something that, sorry for the upcoming pun, brings new meaning to the term "board-slide." His creation has been dubbed the Lap Skate Guitar and is the, "intersection between an electric guitar and a skateboard deck, resulting in a custom made musical instrument that produces mellow sounds just as Lap Steel Guitar."

Music Guitar Skateboarding Extreme Sports Rock music Innovative Design Non-Premium

The blank wood skateboard deck features all the essentials of a steel guitar: "a 1/4 inch input jack, an electric guitar bridge, one guitar pickup, one volume knob, one lock nut and six tuning pegs."
Here you can see it plugged into an amp, just begging for talented musicians to, dare we say it, find their 'bearings' on this new creation.

And this musical instrument raises so many more questions:

• If you play upside down (a la Jimi Hendrix) are you playing goofyfooted so to speak?
• When you slide on the guitar strings, but in a reverse manner is that called a fakie chord?
• At what point will some hybrid musician/skater release their music demo tape at a demo?

Okay, puns aside, this musical instrument is a highly innovative design, and deserves your listening ears. One commenter says it sounds like the song "No Expectations" by the Rolling Stones. No confirmation on that, but their guess seems pretty accurate.

Finally, we're not the only ones that keep make puns out of the situation. Stereotank describes the Lap Skate Guitar as:

"…a hybrid that combines skateboarding with music into one sliding experience."
