Peanut butter and jelly, jam or preserves?
The combination of sugar and fruit is delicious no matter what, but there are subtle differences between these three options.
Preserves
While 'preserves' can be a term used for all fruit spreads, the clarification here is that preserves are made up of large chunks of fruit cooked down with sugar, but they tend to be much less syrupy than other options.
Jam
Jam is also made of mashed fruit and sugar, but with added pectin and fruit juice as well that gives it a little more clear, gel-like substance
Jelly
Jelly is the most gel-like of the three as it uses more pectin than jam. It's also cooks down longer and goes through a thorough straining process to achieve that translucent appearance.
