It's pretty common for people to get feel a little sad over the holidays. Here's how to combat the winter blues and enjoy this magical season.

1. Get some exercise.

Taking a run or focusing on a workout video will help you channel your energy into something positive. Plus, focusing on controlling your breathing will help to calm you during anxious moments.

2. Take care of something or someone else.

Take extra special care of the people (or pets!) around you this season. Giving back will definitely make you feel better.

3. Eat some chocolate.

Chocolate has been shown to alleviate anxiety and is actually really good for you. Enjoy some on a day that you're feeling low. Hot chocolate is the perfect winter treat for this reason.

4. Be social.

Feeling down during the winter is pretty common. Get out and talk to people. You'll make new friends and definitely find someone who knows what you're going through.

5. Turn up the music.

If you're prone to the winter blue, make a playlist of tunes that make you happy. Feel free to dance around your apartment like no one's watching.

6. Plan a trip.

If you're feeling down and the cold weather isn't helping you, plan a trip somewhere. Get out to a warm and sunny location or your hometown (bonus points if you can get both!) for some familiarity before you get snowed in.

7. Take up a new hobby.

Spend the winter season trying something you've always wanted to, but never dedicate the time for. Have you always wanted to learn needle point? Or have you been wanting to take some online classes?  Now is the time to go for it! It'd be great if it was an indoor activity, so you can have some fun while getting a break from the cold.

8. Go outside.

Go outside and enjoy the fresh air. Some vitamin D from the sunlight will help to cheer you up.

9. Snuggle up.

Stay warm and snuggle with some cozy blankets this winter. A nap with your fur baby will definitely help to lift your mood.

10. Let some light in.

Light can have a great impact on your mood. Letting in some natural light can definitely lift your spirits on a bad day.
