They say bigger is better, but artist Salavat Fidai is here to prove them wrong.
The Russian artist left his high-paying executive job two years ago to pursue his artistic passions and we're glad he did.
He is now a freelance artist working with photography and painting,
but he is most famous for his miniature masterpieces.
Each work sells for a few hundred dollars, most of the intricate versions at about $450. Check out everything currently for sale in his Etsy shop.
No, that's not photographic trickery, that elephant is carved from the tip of a pencil.
Yep, that's lead. Excuse me, graphite.
The process is obviously very extensive...
Each sculpture takes between 6 and 12 hours to create.
Though the more intricate designs can take up to two days of work.
"I tried Darth Vader seven times. Some Vader heads broke during the carving. It took so many tries to achieve a final product I liked, and now I love it!"
Fidai uses various small crafting knives
And of course, a magnifying glass is essential to create his tiny sculptures.
This Wall-E creation is his personal favorite.
And he says he takes inspiration from lots of Pixar's animated works, along with other movies and cartoons like Star Wars and Batman.
Fidai says he enjoys the artistic aspect of the work, but that the process itself is also meditative for him.
Check out an amazing time lapse video detailing his process:
His work is popular worldwide
and he's had exhibition shows in many countries including China and Italy.
Fidai has also created a book documenting his intricate work and explaining his process and inspirations.
Peace.
