You'll Look Fondly On These 5 Things That Remind You Of Days Gone By
Nostalgia: "thinking back over a previous time and often associating it with happiness." That sounds pleasant, right? Wrong. Some things in life are just inherently nostalgic, and while they try and connect the memory with the happiness, it just goes too far sometimes (read: every time). Whatever is happening right now isn't good enough, because that previous time was WAY better.
–OR–
Whatever you're looking at right now immediately brings up an old, forgotten-on-purpose memory against your will.
When it comes to sports, every annoyingly adoring fan wants their team to win right now. This game. This championship. But, there's also this connection between sports and reminiscing over the past. "Remember when we won that other game?" "Didn't win the 'ship this year, but remember the legendary team from two decades ago?" "This athlete scored a lot of points, but let's take a look at the record books and compare them to everyone else, ever." Can sports ever just live in the moment, ONLY? No.
Friendship in collaboration with nostalgia is true from a young age. Hanging with friends is always just a chit-chat about a previous moment you shared together and how fun that was.
At a young a age it goes something like: "Remember last weekend at the sleepover? That was awesome!"
At a more adult age it goes something like: "Remember drinking and stuff at that one party that one time? Those were the days."
Don't bother having fun right now with friends–it'll never live up to that previous time.
"It seems like just yesterday you were…" Parents don't want to accept that life goes on. Parents don't want to accept their fleeting fate. Parents just don't understand that it's no longer the late 80s and most people won't understand that Will Smith as a rapper reference just made. You're not allowed to grow up around parents, but biology says you have to. Science prevails, but sappy stories live to fight another day.
Even if you hate your hometown and left the moment you had the free will to get out of there, you'll inevitably end up back there someday (even if just to visit family), and the memories will start flooding back in. "There's the place I used to eat cheeseburgers." "There's the place I used to work and hated myself for it." "There's my friend's house who I had a falling out with and haven't spoken to in years." Etc. Hometowns are just architectural excuses for bringing up old (sad) memories.
Without any research backing this claim up, the author of this post can confidently say 99% of internet articles are about a previous time in history.
