Pleased by the positive reactions, Todd teamed up with his friend, Rick Brooks, to grow the "Little Free Library" into a social enterprise.
Little Free Libraries have been popping up ever since,
and have become a worldwide phenomenon.
See some of the coolest examples here!
As of September 2015, there were 32,000 registered libraries in all 50 U.S. states and 70 different countries.
You can register your own library or find one in your area on their awesome interactive map.
When establishing the non-profit, the team was inspired by many ideas
including Andrew Carnegie's mission to construct 2,509 libraries in the early 20th Century.
Along with a local Wisconsin librarian who traveled to 1,400 locations to bring "traveling libraries" to community members.
While the non-profit sells pre-made libraries on their website,
This is one of many styles offered and you can buy yours finished or unfinished to add your own decorative flair. Check out all of the libraries available for purchase here.
many book lovers choose to make their own.
And they get pretty creative with their designs,
with exact replicas of their own homes,
extremely intricate models,
and fun, quirkier versions.

and the company encourages builders to use eco-friendly recycled materials.

or size,
the Little Free Library is a fun way to switch up your own book collection and encourage reading within the community!
