Turn Ordinary Blinds Into Beautiful Roman Shades In One Afternoon
Curtains have the power to transform the feel of an entire space, and Roman Shades are a huge step up from the unappealing plastic blinds that are standard in so many apartments and homes.
This tutorial will provide a super easy way to take your blinds from boring to beautiful.
Standard window blinds to fit your window
Upholstery fabric
Mod Podge (or other crafting glue), brush
Scissors/Pencil/Tape Measure/Clothespins
Newspaper or tarp (optional)
Each slat and connected fold of the shade will be about 7 inches apart.
This is the thinner strand that connects the slats NOT the thicker cord that moves the slats up and down.
Divide your window height by 7 (distance between slats) to figure out how many you'll need, and remove the rest.
Space out each slat evenly and make sure there are at least 2 inches of border on each side, and along the top and bottom pieces.
Pro tip: Iron the 2-inch edges to create a clean line that is easy to follow.
Use Mod Podge or other crafting glue and apply it to the fabric itself, as well as the slat. Fold the fabric over the slat (be sure they're still 7 inches apart) and secure with a clothespin to ensure it dries in the right place.
Iron the edge of the fabric over to make a clean line, and adhere the fabric with glue.
8. Install your beautiful new blinds per included instructions!
Be sure to wait until the blind is fully dried before hanging.
