This City In Kentucky Lets Its Residents Pay Parking Tickets In An Unusual Way
Lexington, Kentucky has come up with a creative and humanitarian solution for cash-strapped residents to "pay off" their parking tickets.
The program is called "Food for Fines." During last year's holiday season, the program netted donations in excess of 6,200 cans of food.
This is good news for problem parkers, and it's great news for underprivileged Lexington families. This is a win-win situation for all residents, and it's a remarkably humanitarian (albeit temporary) solution to both the hunger and money problems of Lexington families during the holiday season.
Last year, only fines from the local parking officials could be paid off using cans, but this year fines from the police can be paid with cans as well.
Canned goods are to be dropped off at the parking authority, and donations will go to God's Pantry Food Bank. Of course, expired, damaged, or opened canned foods won't be accepted.
