This Guinea Pig's Back Was Broken, But Thanks To Some Loving Hands He's Going To Be Okay
For the love of god people, if your infants still don't yet understand the concept of pain, then don't them play with a small animal.
A young child who was playing with her squeezed her so hard her back broke, paralyzing her from the waist down immediately.
To make matters worse, Estella was left on the side of the road by the owners. After being picked up and taken into a local shelter, she then went an entire month without treatment for her injuries. But finally, Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary came to her rescue.
“The chair is now built but we need to make a few more adjustments for her to ride,” Christine Morrissey, sanctuary manager at Harvest Home, told The Huffington Post. “The wheelchair is designed as an exercise mechanism ... to increase her enrichment and activity level.”
“A volunteer at the shelter reached out to to see if we could rescue the pair,” Morrissey said. “Of course, we said yes.”
Moral of the story? If your small child has yet to understand how to gently play with small animals, then don't let them. Injuries like the one Estella sustained are completely preventable if responsible parenting is implemented.
