Both Wolves And Veterans Benefit Equally From This Heartwarming Program To Help Them Heal

by N/A, 10 years ago | 2 min read

"There are things I've seen that I can't unsee. There are things I've done that I cannot undo. Just saying that, 'well, I did it in the name of my country' doesn't help you sleep at night. But what does help you sleep, is having a companion."

Despite their reputations of resiliency and toughness, wolves are susceptible to struggle and trauma, just like the rest of us.

And as many know, veterans in particular experience an immense amount of trauma long after they make it home.

"After 10 years of military life, it was sort of a tough transition. Had I continued down my course of being angry, drinking myself to death may have been the last chapter of my life."

In the serene woods of Frazier Park, California, "Warriors and Wolves" takes mistreated or injured wolves and pairs them up with afflicted veterans so that both can heal.

By bonding with and developing relationships with these beautiful pack creatures, veterans are able to therapeutically release their angst and pain from their military days.

"They kind of teach you how to be calm and confident. It's got some deeper meaning when they accept you...they accept you into the family - part of the pack."

And the wolves, once hunted or abused, are able to heal from their own traumatic experiences by being loved on and cared for by veterans.

In short, it's one of the most effective, and heartwarming initiatives for veterans out there. The program has yet to have neither a veteran nor a wolf come away from their time there unchanged.
