These Intricate Glass Creations Make You Feel Like You Are Looking At The Real Animal

When someone perfectly capture science in artistic form, and reveals the artistry within science with one series of works, you pay attention.
To the naked eye, these may look like real marine animals, but really, they're glass creations of Steffen Dam.
Dam, who's had a fascination with anatomy and biology since he was young, has been making intricate glass creations for over 25 years...
And for the last several years, he's been dedicating his time towards these: lifelike oceanic creatures.
Each work is carefully created to be capable of suspending in water, so as to make them look even more like real life specimens.
Except, as Dam is quick to point of, none of his creations are designed after real living creatures.
Their slight falsity is a part of his aim to provoke people's imaginations.
"My aim is to describe the world as I see it. One could also say to describe what’s not tangible and understandable with our everyday senses..." he says on his website.
Dam, who has a background in toolmaking, has developed a sound mechanical understanding of the way the structures and forms interact with each other...
Which has lent itself greatly to projects like this, and his overarching "Cabinets of Curiosity" collection, which is made up entirely of anatomically correct marine life forms.
"My cylinders contain nothing that exists in the ocean, my specimens are plausible but not from this world, my plants are only to be found in my compost heap, and my flowers are still unnamed."
In short, with his exquisite work, Dam reveals both the science behind art, as well as the artistry within science - a claim few artists can rightfully make.
Be sure to visit Dam's website to check out more of his incredible work.
