The 2 Things You Need To Be Aware Of To Keep Your Netflix Watching Under Control
Netflix has revolutionized the television and cinema businesses in many different ways, and it's all owed to the idea of streaming. Instant access to hundreds of options sounds like an incredible thing–and it is. However, if you stop and take a breath for a second instead of clicking 'Watch Next Episode' you may realize that you've found yourself in a deep, dark blackhole on the Internet.
However, however, that deep, dark blackhole may also be a little thing known as bliss. Here's what we mean.
If you don't know what you want to watch when you sign on, you're doomed. The reason: there's too many options at your disposal. You won't be able to navigate it all. You'll waste as much time looking for something to watch as you do actually watching something, and/or may just fall asleep by the time you do.
You see, if you don't know what you want to watch when you first get on Netflix, the front page has endless potential for scrolling. 'Continue Watching.' 'Trending Now.' 'Popular' 'Top Picks (for you).' 'New Releases,' and on and on and on and on.
Even if you finally decide on one of those categories, then they'll tease you with a little wink as if to say, "Hey, you like this, right? Then, you'll love these infinite more options as well. Scroll through them real quick." It never ends!
If you make your way through all the front page scrolling and researching, they have one more option as some extra heavy lifting–the 'Browse' tab. Want to get even more specific than you did on the front page? Genre specific to be more specific. And once click on one of these it simply leads back to the same premise as SUBPOINT A and B. Good luck: you really just should know what you want to watch, although that's not a guaranteed blackhole avoidance either.
It saves you time as far as navigating through all the options, however, it doesn't necessarily save you time as far as how much time you have left in your life. As in, you're going to be sitting here watching Netflix for a long time because of this.
You reach the end of an episode and you should probably get up, go outside, or bathe, or eat or do literally anything else with your life, but Netflix disagrees. They give you a call to action at the end of every episode as if to say, " You know this hook is too good to walk away from, so sick back down and watch more of this stuff." Good thing you knew you wanted to watch this.
And since you knew exactly what you wanted to watch, you're probably going to take advantage of SUBPOINT A until you either finish the season or fall over unconscious–as in asleep, we're not saying Netflix will knock a person out. Although, reaching the end of a series could leave you mind-blown, thus rendering you unconscious to the outside world for days while going over the entire series plot-line.
Now, that’s not to say I’m going to be ending my subscription anytime soon (read: or ever). It just means, I’m well aware of all the daylight I’m missing out on and loving every minute of it (and you should be too)!
