If You're Into Organizing Your Life, Try These 6 Tips To Check Off Your To-Do List
I love lists. I have tiny notebooks devoted to making lists of good quotes, recipes to try and moments I don't want to forget. So of course, when it comes to organizing my life, I use my old faithful: the To-Do List.
The best To-Do lists focus on the next one or two weeks, anything farther out than that is more of a goal than an actionable item.
Rather than "Write 3 Articles," say "Write articles on To-Do Lists, Best To-Do List Apps, and Motivational Tips."
This way you have three specific and manageable tasks rather than one ambiguous one. You can also mark your progress with each component of the accomplishment which is in itself motivating!
Use the example above by downloading the printable, or make up your own applicable sections like Personal and Professional. Or the straightforward Today, Tomorrow and This Week.
While I truly love the satisfaction of physically crossing off a To-Do List item, the fact is, you stay much more organized and updated with an electronic version. You can also more easily move items from one list to another, or one column to another.
Many apps will even sync the lists to your desktop or email account to make sure you always have the most current version.
Often when making a list, I add a few things I've already completed that day or week. This way, the progress has already started and the sheer number of things doesn't seem quite as overwhelming.
This is especially important if you don't finish Today's list and need to move things to Tomorrow or Next Week. It also gives you a succinct overview of what you accomplished that day and a good preview of what you still have to work on.
