You Loved These 7 Songs From The 2000s, But Did You Really Ever Listen To The Lyrics?
We're happy to no longer be living in the early 2000s, because of the rampant sexual and misogynistic messages that popular love songs were continually sending out into the public. Back then, love was seen as simply spending the night together, or even just a quick car ride. Love songs weren't about love at all: they were simply about filthy thoughts, and no real commitments to go along with them.
Good thing we don't have to listen to 'love' songs featuring such misogynistic lyrics anymore like we did back in the early 2000s:
"B*tch, you know better, we live M-O-B: Money Over B*tches" Thanks for that reminder Ja Rule.
Let's put on some 'slow jamz,' and then women are expected to just do what they're told, according to early 2000s pop music:
"I told her to drive over in your new whip // Bring some friends you cool with // I'm gonna bring the cool whip // Then I want you to strip // See you is my new chick // So we get our grind on"
The whole song is pretty sweet, and seemingly genuine, until he reveals why he's actually been pursuing this apparently lovely young lady:
"Girl, stop playing games wit me // And let's get it on tonight (tonight) // You got nothing to lose"
Glad to hear that in the early 2000s that having an affair was considered love:
"Shes my pinch hitta //When the startin lineup aint playin right // I come off the bench wit her // It might sound like im gassin ya // But it takes time to get from the back seat to the passenger // We been creepin and sneakin // Just to keep it from leakin // We so deep in our freakin"
Back in the early 2000s rappers could just give women the ultimatum of having sex or GTFO, and that's a lovely part of history from the early 2000s:
"And don't touch nothing Sit in the car // Let discuss Somethin' // Either we lovin' or I'll see you tomorrow // Now we speeding up the Westside // Hand creepin' up her left side, I'm ready to do it // Ready to bone, ready for dome"
This song is really sweet right? Well, if you consider the fact that even though Ashanti is getting into a relationship, but Usher plans on not respecting that, maybe not:
"Now another brother's taken over // But its still in your eyes my boo // Even though we used to argue it's alright // I know we haven't seen each other // In awhile but you will always be my boo"
"What's love? // It's about us (It's about us)" Oh, really?! Then where's the trust when she's apparently ready to cheat:
"You came here with the heart to cheat // So you need to sing the song with me // All my ladies come on"
Nothing loving about that, IMHO.
While this is the only song on the list that is actually about love, and not just sex and misogyny, it is a painful reminder of how hard love can be, and thus, also an early 2000s song that ruined your thoughts on ever finding love:
"I never shoulda let you go // I didn't know nothing // I was stupid, I was foolish // I was lying to myself // I could not fathom that I would ever // Be without your love"
