This Firefighter Put Everyone To Shame As He Ran A Marathon In Full Gear

by N/A, 10 years ago | 5 min read

Can you imagine completing a marathon? Okay, now try and imagine doing so with an extra 45 pounds strapped to you. That's what this California fireman is doing, and he's been doing it all over the country for an incredible cause.

Willie Geist, "Today" and "Morning Joe" show co-host, snapped this photo during the NYC marathon.

He was unable to identify who the runner was, but thankfully the internet revealed who the fireman was. Incredibly this is not the first time he's done this sort of thing.

His name is Jose Zambrano, a.k.a. FiremanJoe of the El Segundo, California Fire Department.

He's been lugging around all 45 pounds for the 26.2 mile trek in various stops all over the country in honor of a charitable cause that's close to his heart and his career. He's running on behalf of the National Fallen Firefighters Association, which aims to increase safety for firefighters and assist the families of those that have lost ones in the line of duty.

So, like we said, the NYC Marathon hasn't been his first race, nor will it be his last.

He's also completed the Chicago Marathon...
The Ventura Marathon...
And the San Francisco Marathon...
FiremanJoe has even set up a GoFundMe page so that you can donate to his and the NFFA cause...

You can read more about his story, and the mission of his multiple marathons by visiting the page right here.

Additionally, to keep getting updates about FiremanJoe's journey around the United States completing marathons, be sure to follow him Instagram, and like his Facebook page as well.

He explains:

"I compete and race in marathons and triathlons in full fire gear to honor the fallen firefighters who die in the line of duty and their families, through The "National Fallen Firefighters Foundation" and the 'Everyone Goes Home program.'"

An incredible athlete and an incredible cause that we should all take notice of. Thanks FiremanJoe!
