Turns Out You 100% Can Be Addicted to Junk Food. Here Are the Top 20 Addictive Foods
A two-part study conducted by researchers at the University of Michigan, published over on PLOS ONE, has found the answer to why you might not be able to resist certain foods. If you're interested in the details, such as the participants, one part involved 120 college students 18 to 23 years-old/another a survey of 384 people aged 18 to 64.
There's a lot of science that goes into manipulating the numbers, so if you're down for that follow the PLOS ONE link. If not, enjoy this craving countdown.
The study conclusion states:
"It is plausible that like drugs of abuse, these highly processed foods may be more likely to trigger addictive-like biological and behavioral responses due to their unnaturally high levels of reward."
So delicious foods are drug-like is essentially what it says, and drugs are what triggers certain reward systems in the brain. Sounds like a slippery-slope. Are cheeses gateway foods into eggs, burgers, pizza, etc.? Possibly. For now, enjoy the rest of the countdown.
You probably could've seen this one coming. Who doesn't love pizza?! It's so delicious and it's (IMHO) a staple in everybody's diet for their entire lives. And there's now a scientific reason behind that: it's highly, i.e. the most, addictive food there is.
Try not to salivate all over your computer and/or phone like we have been this whole time.
