Jerusalem is Filled With Huge Beautiful Flowers... But Not the Kind You'd Expect

Meet me at the giant inflatable flowers.
Jerusalem’s Vallero Square recently received a quirky addition: these giant inflatable flowers.

During the day, the flowers bloom when civilians approach them, providing shade for those looking for a break from the heat.

And at night, they stay in bloom, serving as inviting street lamps for passersby.

Installed by HQ Architects in 2014 and titled “Warde,” the nine-meter-wide innovative floral lamps were designed to bring life to an otherwise tired area.

“This project is part of the municipality’s effort to improve the urban space of the city center and in this specific case, of the [square’s] poor condition,” reads the submission on Designboom.

“Warde’s attempt was not to fight the chaos but instead to try and lighten up the urban space, by spreading around these four elements that have a hint of fantasy, and with their help, overcome the reality of the square.”
And while Vallero Square is still a work in progress, the Warde flowers are certainly a creative step in the right direction.
