He was killed by a 17-year-old who confessed to the crime, but forensic investigators found that the killing was carried about by more than one person. His family believe he was assassinated as part of a political statement because he often spoke out against political and religious leaders.
Elizabeth Short, a 22-year-old actress, was found murdered in Los Angeles on the morning of January 15, 1947. Her injuries indicated that she had been strangled, tortured and drained of blood. She was called "The Black Dahlia," by the press. Police were never able to track down her killer.
