Older siblings rule, younger siblings drool.
You and your siblings are always debating who's smarter, and now, there's actually scientific evidence that reveals it's the OLDER sibling who is the smartest child. Here's what the study found.
The study was done by the University of Leipzig in Germany, and gathered data from IQ and personality tests from three national studies with 20,000 subjects... a pretty large sample size.
1. The older children get more undivided attention.
The study suggests that because older children get more undivided attention, they develop more skills, whereas the younger children share the attention with the older sibling.
2. Older children are expected to teach younger siblings knowledge or skills they've learned.
The study suggests that one of the reasons older children may be smarter is because they're expected to pass down knowledge to their younger siblings, so they become inclined to learning more.
Maybe that's why all the Baldwin brothers are actors?Â
3. The difference in IQ between the older and younger siblings was 1.5 points. Surprisingly, it goes down by that much per sibling.
4. In a two-child family, researchers estimated that the older child had a 60% chance of having a higher IQ than the younger sibling.
Are you shocked by this sibling study?
