10 Classic 'Gilmore Girls' Moments That Rival Any Other Mother-Daughter Relationship
Gilmore Girls is slated to make a comeback to Netflix with four 90 minute episodes, so it's time to re-immerse ourselves into Stars Hollow and the fabulous lives of Lorelai and Rory Gilmore. Brush up on your Gilmore-isms by revisiting these ten epic mother-daughter moments.
It's every mother's rite of passage to divulge the details of the day you were born. Lorelai crawls into bed with Rory on her 16th birthday and rehashes all the details. This sweet moment reinforces their unbreakable bond.
After Lorelai calls off her wedding to Max, she tells Rory to pack her bags. With no destination in mind, Lorelai drives endlessly before settling on a quirky bed and breakfast. Lorelai later surprises Rory with a visit to her dream school, Harvard.
There's no better way to get revenge on a guy than to devil egg his car. Rory felt a lot of frustration towards Jess (and his girlfriend) so she and Lorelai put a creative spin on a classic prank by devil egging Jess' car...which he was pissed about.
"I'm ready to wallow now" is a classic Gilmore Girls line. Rory had been ignoring her heartbreak from Dean all episode, but after Tristan kisses her at the Chilton party, she realizes her mom is right - she needs to wallow and get all of her sadness out of her system. Lorelai is there to comfort her, and that starts with ordering a giant pizza with everything on it.
Rory left out the fact that the reason the cops broke up the party she was at was because Jess and Dean got into a fight...over her. That inspires Lorelai to serenade her with some Bette Midler, much to Rory's annoyance.
"But my ultimate inspiration comes from my best friend, the dazzling woman whom I received my name and my life's blood, Lorelai Gilmore. My mother never gave me the idea that I couldn't do whatever I wanted to do or be whomever I wanted to be." As Sookie puts it, NOT CRYING.Â
Lorelai tries to make Rory hate her by saying "go Hitler," but she still can't let her mom leave. Lorelai ends up throwing the ultimate dorm party and bunks up in Rory's room, where they howl at rowdy college boys before going to sleep.Â
Not every mother-daughter relationship is perfect. While Lorelai and Rory have always been best friends, that doesn't mean that Lorelai agrees with everything Rory does - one of those things was when Rory loses her virginity to a married Dean.
Lorelai has comforted Rory over breakups multiple times, but when Luke broke up with Lorelai, the tables turned. Rory borrows Logan's limo and gets her cookie dough and endless supplies of things to make her feel better. Most importantly, she lies in bed with her and lends her mom a shoulder to cry on.
Lorelai and Rory had been on the outs after Rory quit Yale for a semester, but that doesn't mean the door wasn't open - it was just about when it would open again. Rory reenrolls in Yale, gets a job, and the first person she breaks the news to, is of course her best friend and ultimate cheerleader, Lorelai.
