Rather than wallow in heartache, this California family turned an unfortunate situation into a selfless extravaganza that touched the hearts of many.
Quinn Duane was planning to tie the knot at the picturesque Citizen Hotel in Sacramento, California on October 17... until her fiancé got cold feet.
Instead of canceling her reception, Quinn's mom, Kari Duane, saw it as an opportunity to give back - by hosting a feast for the homeless.
“When I found out on Monday that the wedding would not be taking place, it just seemed like, of course, this would be something that we would do to give back,†Kari Duane told KCRA.Â
The family reached out to local homeless shelters to invite the community to the lavish $35,000 non-refundable ceremony.
Food consumed included salad, cauliflower, salmon and gnocchi.Â
While Quinn herself decided to stay home, 90 adults and children attended the extravaganza. Many were moved by the Duane family's act of kindness.
“To lose out on something so important to yourself and then give it to someone else is really giving, really kind,†Erika Craycraft, an attendee, told KCRA.
In addition to the feast, flowers intended for the wedding will be donated to a local nursing home.
“I’m grateful that I had the opportunity to give to them,†Kari said
