Maybe bra burning doesn't need to be a thing of the past.Â
A study conducted at the University of Franche-Comte studied the effects of bras over a 15-year period.
The study was conducted by Sport science researcher and professor Jean-Denis Rouillon on 330 women ages 18 to 35.Â
Researchers used a slide rule and caliper to measure changes in participants breasts every year for 15 years.
Researchers found that starting wear a bra from a young age didn't help support the chest, reduce back pain or prevent sagging breast tissue. In fact, the found that wear a bra could cause an increase in sagging.
Researchers concluded that young women would gain more tone and supporting breast tissue if they didn't wear bras.
"For younger women, not wearing a bra will lead to increased collagen production and elasticity, which improves lift in a developing breast," said Dr. Stafford Broumand, who was not connected with this particular study.
Researchers in the study said that bras could affect circulation and reduce breast tone over time.
Professor Rouillon believes that more research is needed on the subject and these are just preliminary findings on the subject.Â
