A Superhighway From New York To London Is Being Proposed... Here's The Details

by N/A, 10 years ago | 1 min read

A "Trans-Eurasian Belt Development" i.e. superhighway was officially proposed by Russian Railways head Vladimir Yakunin last spring. He officially left his position this August, so it's hard to know where things stand with the project, but we do know what it would entail if it moved forward, namely trillions of dollars.

This superhighway would stretch across Russia along pre-existing roads, and would eventually connect with London across Europe and to New York across Canada and the United States. Here's the proposed layout:

Much of the newly created roadways would follow along the Trans-Siberian Railway, according to CNN.

While all this sounds very exciting, they never quite explained how they'd connect the 55-mile gap between Russia and Alaska...

And, with Yakunin having moved on from his job, things may be on hold for awhile with this innovative idea. The plan would include a brand-new train network and oil and gas pipelines. Time will tell if this project gets picked up and family road trips start going from the east coast of the United States to London.

Speaking of which–if anybody can drive across three continents...
Without having a freakout like this...

They're a more sane person than we can imagine.
