This 2,000 Person Human Peace Sign Was Created In Honor Of John Lennon's Birthday

John Lennon had one goal near the end of his life: give peace a chance. His widow, Yoko Ono, honored that sentiment with a world record attempt for what would've been his 75th birthday celebration in Central Park. The attempt? The world's largest human peace sign. The result is nothing short of beautiful; something the former Beatle would've been proud of.

This is Lennon and Ono during their famed "bed-ins" for peace. Together they stood for a message of peace that they wanted to spread to the world.

So, what better way to remember that message, and legacy, than to show it off once more, and on his birthday no less.Â

October 9 marks what would've been his 75th birthday, so Ono arranged this giant party of sorts. 2,000 people came to the East Meadow lawn of Central Park, including drummers, politicians and aging hippies as you could've guessed.

And they all came together for one purposeâ€¦

To make the world's largest human peace signâ€¦

Ono explained, "He really worked hard on trying to make things better for people, and so this is a very, very positive thing thatâ€™s happened."

Although they came up shy of the world record, which stands 5,814 people from a 2009 display, this was no doubt a peaceful celebration of the famed musician's birthday.

The singing, dancing and tambourines was everything we think he would've dreamed of seeing. The whole demonstration was Lennon-esque, if you will.
