You've Got To See The Incredible Treehouse This Grandfather Built For His Grandkids

by N/A, 10 years ago | 2 min read

When you become a grandparent, you love doing nice things for your grandkids. And if you're anything like most when you become one, you'll naturally want to shower them with kindness too - because that's what grandparents do, right?

Handyman and contractor Jay Hewitt took his grandpa duties to the next level - actually, three levels - and decided not to simply give his grandkids something, but to build them something...something that they'd never forget.

Behold, the tree house of all tree houses. At three full stories and 40 feet high, it's really more like a tree home.
And Grandpa Hewitt, a veteran contractor, built the entire thing himself, in just under two years.

“I wanted to build a treehouse for them...I said, 'you’ve never seen a treehouse like the one I’m gonna build for them.'"

The interior features things like soft cedar walls, natural birch stairs and the maple trees he built the giant structure around.

“I had a treehouse when I was a kid, but it was basically a 4-by-8 sheet of plywood,” Hewitt told the Sun Chronicle. “I never dreamed that a treehouse would be anything like this.”

Oh, and the 780 square foot tree abode also has two spacious second-story balconies, apart from its expansive 1st level walk-up deck.

All in all, Hewitt's grandkids, who are only 4 and 5 years old respectively, love the awesome mega-fort, but they haven't quite reached their "tree house phase" yet, so they haven't used it as much as he'd hoped. Meanwhile, Hewitt's fascination with tree houses is only growing stronger.

The 59-year-old contractor is already thinking about his next big idea, a potential "tree house resort" of sorts, on a lake in New Hampshire.

“It would be unique,” Hewitt said.

If they're anything like this tree house, it would be remiss to assume that they would not only be unique, but equally as awesome.
