You don't have to be Bob Villa to tackle a little home improvement. These are DIY projects anyone can do.

1. Riverstone kitchen splashback

You can buy mesh stone tiles just about anywhere, but a home improvement store will have the most options. Just install them with tile adhesive, let them set, then cover them with white or grey grout.

Once you've done this, simply polish off the excess with a wet cloth, and voila!

This is a project anyone can do. For complete instructions, visit here.

2. Mirror closet doors

Get rid of those old, unsightly closet doors and make your bedroom look bigger with the addition of some simple panel mirrors. You can find them at your local home improvement store, and most require no assembly, aside from installation.

3. Small window curtain cover-up

Half of interior decorating is trickery - fooling the eye into thinking something isn't what it really is. This is a perfect example of that. If you have a standalone, oddly placed window, there's no need to get rid of it. It just need company. With the addition of curtains and a mirror, that lonely window suddenly looks like it belongs.

4. Open-space wall "closet"

Just because you don't have an enclosed closet, doesn't mean you don't have one at all. If you have an alcove or open wall in your room, all you need is a few decorative wall-mounts and wooden rods to make your own. Just make sure you install them on support beams and not just drywall.

5. Faux garage door windows

Garage doors aren't ordinarily a selling point for most houses, which is why you see pretty much the same one or two on every house. Sure, they might not be unsightly, but they sure don't stand out. To make sure yours does, beautify it by painting faux windows and adding some rustic handles and support clasps. See the full instructions here.

6. Multicolored drapes

Okay, so you don't have to make them as eccentric as this, but for those who have a passion for the vibrant, having more than just one color of drapes can make a room pop. Just make sure the colors actually go together.

7. Home theater lounge area

With the use of some simple, painted pallets along with several lounge cushions, you can easily put together your own personal home theater multi-level lounge area. Just make sure you're getting the pallets from a trustworthy source.

8. Custom frosted glass patterns

This one is worth getting excited about. You can make your own frosted window patterns with - wait for it...CORN STARCH. Yes, you read that correctly. It'll require some tedious prepping, but it's absolutely worth the results. See the full instructions here.

9. Fishing pole storage rack

If you love to fish but don't currently have a very ideal place to stow your rods, you probably haven't considered the ceiling as an option yet. With just a few wire racks, you can make sure your kids never run into them with the car again. Find the instructions here.

10. Wide trim doorway moulding

This one literally couldn't be easier. Just get the measurements of the doorways you want to add to, buy wide trim that fits them, and install!

11. Chalkboard fridge

It's as simple as getting chalkboard paint (yes, it's a thing) and covering that boring old refrigerator in it. You'll never need to buy another over-priced dry erase marker set again.

12. Decorative ledge

If you live in a home that has an awning ledge, and you're not using it for anything, shame on you. Sure, it may be a bit inconvenient to climb a ladder just to decorate it, but you'll only need to do it once (or twice, depending on whether you change it for Christmas), and it makes your mudroom exponentially more inviting for guests.

13. Beautified stairs

Distinctiveness adds a lot of value to a home, and what better way to set yours apart then by making a prosaic area like the stairs unique and lively? There's no one right idea, but there are plenty of good ones online that can serve as inspiration.
