Facebook Is Working On Adding The 'Dislike' Button And That Is Absolutely Great News

One thing has always been true about Facebook: you can like what your friends are up to. Now, you don't only have to be supportive of your digital acquaintances.Â

During a recent Q&A, Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg had this to say:

â€œI think people have asked about the dislike button for many years. Today is a special day because today is the day I can say weâ€™re working on it and shipping it.â€Â

That's rightâ€“now you can dislike something on Facebook, which at this point just makes total sense.

You want to show support for someone with a deceased pet or loved one for instance? Saying you liked that was most likely off-putting to the person who posted it. Only having the one option was more than narrowing when it comes to the emotions of Facebook users.

The thumbs-up has officially been given its counterpart.

But what took so long for this to come along? Zuckerberg explained:

"Some people have asked for a dislike button because they want to say, 'That thing isnâ€™t good.' And thatâ€™s not something that we think is good for the world. So weâ€™re not going to build that," Zuckerberg said in the town hall.

Essentially he didn't want to arm passive-aggressive users with a tool for getting under other's skin, and some may even be hesitant to post if they think it'll be disliked.

Either way, it's coming; so, what's it going to look like?

Facebook isn't trying to mimic the voting system of Reddit, but rather give users a chance to show support of camaraderie in the case of bad news.Â

Like above, if somebody reaches out to their friends on Facebook when someone or something close to them has passed-away, this would be a great way to show support, if you will, of that sad news.

Is this new system going to work for Facebook?

Time will tell whether or not users like or dislike it.
