Two Missing Dogs Prove That Their Loyalty Extends To Each Other As Well As Humans
When two dogs didn't return from their usual walk in Vashon Island, Washington for several hours, their owner knew something was wrong.
Immediately, he contacted the island's pet safety, Vashon Island Pet Protection, who conducted a sweep of the island. Their search was fruitless for an entire week until a stranger made an unexpected discovery - one that serves as yet another touching testament to dogs' loyalty.
Immediately, he called Vashon Island Pet Protection to come and identify her. When volunteers arrived, the dog got them to investigate further in the way only she knew how - by not moving from her place and forcing them to come to her.
When they did, they found her looking down an old concrete cistern the man's yard. The cunning golden retriever, named Tillie, had been watching over her friend, a basset hound named Phoebe, who was helplessly stuck inside.
“When I got there and looked down, Tillie saw me but didn’t come running up,†a Vashon Island Pet Protection volunteer told The Dodo. "She just stayed near the edge of this cistern...Had she run up, we might have never realized that Phoebe was down there. She just stayed put, making it so clear that I had to come to her so I would see her friend."
But what an amazing testament it is to the commitment and loyalty of dogs and the lengths they're willing to go for a friend.Â
