He's not just a cute cartoon...he's a cultural hero.
There's a festival in Yokohama, Japan dedicated entirely to Pikachu and it's absolutely beyond words.
Literally...there are no words that could adequately describe it.
“Pikachu Tairyou Hassei Chu†(An Outbreak of Pikachus) began only last year to celebrate the release of the recent Pokémon film, "Pikachu, What's This Key For?"
And with the festival returning this year for a second time, it seems as though it'll be a staple in Yokohama for years to come.
Many. Many. Years.
The entire city was pretty much decked out from top to bottom in every type of Pikachu you could imagine.
There were sailor Pikachus...
Snapback Pikachus...
And yes, there were even hula dancer Pikachus.
From the looks of it, there wasn't a corner of the city that didn't join in celebrating the tiny yellow Pokémon. Even Starbucks took part.
Clearly, the people of Japan are only slightly fond of their Pikachu...
Just ever so slightly.
