The historic Woodstock Music and Art Fair is known as one of the of the most iconic events in American music history.
The three day festival took place on a dairy farm in Bethel, New York on Aug. 15, 1969.
More than 400,000 people attended the festival.
Organizers were only expecting 50,000 people at the event, so the small town of Bethel was unprepared for the hoards of people who attended.
Attendees were given free admission once organizers realized they couldn't handle the number of people who planned to attend.
Jimi Hendrix, Joan Baez, Santana, The Grateful Dead, The Who, and Jefferson Airplane all performed at Woodstock.
Nudity, recreational drug use and a free love atmosphere were all around during the festival.
Attendees came together to feed each other during the fair.
Two women provided medical care to concert goers.
There were two recorded deaths at the festival. One from heroin overdose and the other was an accident. A trailer drove over a sleeping concertgoer.Â
Two babies were born during the festival.
